Is it worth getting a UV Sterilizer or not? I was told at a LFS that it would help reduce the spread of Ick and other bacterial and fungus infections.

Is this true?

Should I waste 100 dollars on a UV Sterilizer?

Will it help reduce a great deal of infection and diseases?

I have native fishes (Channel Cat, Largemouth Bass,Grass Pikerels)

Let me know your opinions and your thoughts

Thank you

Honestly, If you're not having issues I wouldn't worry about it. I've actually had more problems with UV than without.

I wonder sometimes if it does the same thing as people who take too much medicine. If their immune system never has to work, does it make them weaker?

a UV helps keep water clear ...

I have a big pond UV on my 210 gal. and my Turquoise Severum got a mild case of ick ... none of the other fish did though.

The UV keeps bacterial and algae bloom down big time.

I also have a smaller unit on my 90 gallon that had a problem with cloudy water until I put it on there.

Have to agree with that statement. Keep your water clean and you won't need UV. IMO disease, algea and parasites become a problem when water quality slips.
