I just picked up a UV sterilizer for my pond. It is an Emperor Smart Light 02225 I think.

Anyhow, since it's been running for an hour and I'm impatient :ROFL: I was just wondering how long it takes to clear things up. I know more than an hour :screwy:, but i was wondering if a day or two is normal, or will it be a week?

The pond is 1100g, and I am pumping the recommended ~300gph through it.
I had some SERIOUS algae problems for the last 2 weeks, but I used some algaefix on it, so the water is probably down to ~50% cloudy.

Once I get my pond cleared up, I thought I will hook it up to one or more of my aquariums, just to see how crystal clear I can get them, so then my question will be, how long should it take to brighten up a 180 and 150 (which already have 90% clear water)

Thanks

For clearing greenwater only, you can push a lot more than 300 gph past the bulb and still be efficient... Yet keep in mind the housing will have a max capacity flow rate that you do not want to exceed...

A friend had a 700'ish gallon pond with a horrible case of green water. We could not clearly see fish that were only inches below the surface and could not even see shadows/silhouettes of the ones that were 12" below the surface...

I sold him a 40W UV light with a 1,000’ish gallon flow rate and within 24 hours we could clearly see fish a few inches below the surface and sort of see the fish 20” below the surface (20” deep pond)…

At 48 hours the fish on the bottom could clearly be seen…

At 4~5 days the water was crystal clear top to bottom…

I would expect your 25W light on a 1,100 gal pond to take a bit longer, but you should see daily improvements that make you smile.

Once transferred to your in-home aquariums… I suggest using a canister filter to create an actual flow rate of 250 gph or less.

Having toyed with UV lights for 5+ years including on tanks raising Blue Dempseys which are known to be susceptible to parasitic infections… I’ve settled on a formula of 1W per 10 US gallons… at 10 gph per 1W of UV strength… I am confident that this formula will not only clarify water but will eradicate parasites.

I agree, I have read you should see some improvement in a day or so and around a weeks things should be looking sorted.

yeah i think in a week you should see a nice difference, but in 1 hour you've not even gone through all the water. at 300gph it will take you 4 hours to get through all of that water. so for nc_nutcase's freind he noticed improvement in 24 hours at 1.4x turnover per hour on a 40w uv. if you take that by turnover alone that's noticible improvement after 33-34 complete turnovers through the UV.

you do 6 turnovers per day so that's 5-6 days for the same turnover.

idk impatient me would put on a stronger pump.
