Hi I'm having the green water affect on my 450 gallon...I'm looking into a UV sterilizer. The Coralife turbo twist 12x 36 watt to be exact. My question is I'm connecting it on the return line on a FX5. Would the flow rate be enough?
I, too, have a 450g running the coralife turbo twist 36w. From what I was told, the flow if too fast doesn't give the uv light enough time to do its job. I ran a syphon line that connects the coralife into my sump that allows the flow to be as slow as possible.
Don't know if this is the best setup but it has worked for me.
Too fast a flow through the UV will not let it do it`s thing.
For algae or bacteria, you will need to slow down the flow.
Easily done.
A couple of "T" fittings spliced into your return line with a valve can feed your UV and not effect your FX5`s overall flow.
If I remember right, a figure of 10gph per watt was the optimal flow for both algae and parasite/disease control.
Or, you could set up a dedicated pump.
