I have a wet/dry sump but i plan on selling it. I also have a uv sterilizer I planned on hooking up to the wet/dry...but since i am not gonna use the wet/dry anymore think I can hook up the sterilizer to a powerhead with some sort of attachment that will help not clog the uv? and what is good?
I've been using UV lights for 5+ years... I'm a huge fan of them...
I use canister filters to push water through them.
I discourage using powerheads though. The cleaner the water is that goes through the light the more efficient the light will be. The two main reasons are A) even very tiny particles will cast a tiny little shadow within the housing, & B) Any debris moving through the UV light risks scratching the scratch resistant (not scratch proof) quartz sleeve...
My preferred canister for powering UV lights is the Magnum 350 or the Mag HOT (250) stocked with the micron cartridge with a blue filter sock over it.
id really love to use canister but priming and cleaning it without it flooding out is a pain....from my own personal experience that is...never once seen a cannister that is easy to prime/clean etc.....if thats the case id buy a cannister, other then that...if not guess no UV light for me =(
They are self priming and have "quick disconnects" that make removing/cleaning them very simple. I use them with the micron cartridge to remove even the tinest particles. These are also some of the least expensive canister filters in their gph range.
I have both 350 & 250 gph models that I've been using for several years. The biggest legit complain I hear about them is a small bio media chamber, which doesn't matter at all for the application your considering.
