are uv sterilizers good for freshwater? do they really work like miracle? im thinking of getting one for my new 300 gal. could it lessen water changes?

No, it won't lessen waterchanges. All it will do is help prevent parasites, and kill green water.

Won't lessen water changes, but very good to have and will prevent many potential problems with the fish.

my water is cloudy and am thinking of getting one for mu 220 gallon and am wondering how they work and so on if u could explain that would be great

I will never be without a UV for my aquariums, ever. The difference they make in water clarity and algae control, not to mention parasite control, you wont be sorry in getting one. Set up properly, they are cheap insurance.
For a 300g I would go with a 36W@3-400gph.
