any help would be great as im not fimiral with uv sterilizers....

A UV sterilizer will only eliminate free floating algae but will not eliminate algae growth on glass, decor etc. It will help with water clarity and prevent parasites/bacteria depending on flow rates running through it.

Ya why not? I don't see a problem with it. I usually just leave the algae growth on the rocks unless it gets out of control then I clean it.
