I've read posts but this still has me confused. I want to get a UV sterilizer to kill/prevent parasites in my tank. I have a 75g tank that I'm going to buy an Ehiem 2217 for and I want to buy the uv sterilizer at the same time. I would be connecting it to the outflow of the canister, which is rated 265gph, how many watts do I need to kill parasites? Some say this is more than if I wanted to kill algae?? Do filters usually flow at the rate they are rated? I was thinking of getting a Turbo Twist that many talk about but I'm open to any other suggestions. I read somewhere to kill parasites I would need 1w UV per gallon - is that 75w?!

I just got the turbo twist 9w for my 75 gal, I made it portable, I got from someones link, i'll try to find it, basically you use 3/4" pvc and a powerhead you would make it so that it hangs on the tank the powerhead would push the water through the pvc through the turbo twist and then back to the tank. So far it's been working great for my tank, my water is has been clear for a long time even though it's outside where the sun gets to it. I'll try find the link or at least the pic of it! My thing is that the more dwell time the more things get killed in the water!

Connect the UV separately from the cannister, that way differences in water flow will not happen. Buy a small powerhead and have the water go through the UV ( which will hang alongside the tank or wherever you can put it ) and back into the tank. I'd say a 36 W UV is more than enough.
