Can anyone provide feedback on the use of a UV sterilizer on a 300 gallon monster tank ? Looking for help with selecting manufacturer, model number and if you have had good results.

thanks

Im useing a tubotwist 36 watt at 200 gph. the rule of thumb is to have 10 gph per watt.

I purchased a 40watt Pentair UV for my 300 based on recommendations given to me by Pacu Mom who is a member of this site. Unfortunately I do not have it in operation at this time so I can't give you my personal feedback.

But based on the research I did back when I bought mine I decided on the Pentair.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Maybe Pacu Mom will be along shortly.

Our Pentair 40 watt UV sterilizer has done a great job on our 300 gallon tank. We had a bad green water problem from the continuous natural light our tank is in (floor to ceiling picture windows and two skylights in the living room) Our tank quickly cleared up. Our fish's scrapes and cuts heal fast.

The tank went from this:

To this with the UV sterilizer:

The only downside is that the 40 Watt UV is very tall, and probably won't fit in a stand. Ours is connected to an FX-5, and sits on the floor behind the tank.

There are other brands that can be mounted horizontally and fit in the stand. People really like their Turbo twists.

Probably the biggest advantage of the Pentair UV is the bulb....it doesn't have to be replaced as often as all the other UV bulbs. If the height of the Pentair is not an issue for you, (you can see it's much taller than the FX-5) I don't think you'd be disappointed in it's performance.

I'd go with Aqua Ultraviolet. I use one on a small saltwater system. Quality stuff. Also, it has a wiper that you use to keep the quartz sleeve clean.

thanks to all for the input !
