I've just purchased a 10.0 Repti-Glo, but the 13 watt one.
It says it's effective up to 20 inches.
I'm concerned wit the fact that it doesn't burn very bright.
I'm only using it for turtles so they don't need that much, which is why i went with 13 watt but 10.0 percent.

My ? is, are they supposed to be this dim?I just plugged it in and walked away, do they warm up maybe?
And even though it's not blindingly bright, how long should I keep it on for my spiny softie and common musk?
All around the web the softie care sheets say they dont need UVB.......they have bones so I figured seeing as they are juvies, they definitely need it.

I'm just concerned with the exposure times and distances.

Thanks.

I have the same bulbs on my Crested Gecko and Pyxie Frog tank. They take about 5-10 minutes to warm up. UVB isn't really important to either species so it's up to you whether or not you use them. I always say it couldn't hurt. If you want to give them a light cycle then 12 on/12 off is fine.

If you feed your turt with something that has vit D3 and calcium in it, you have nothing to worry about;) Example: reptomin

I'm not going to spam up and open a whole new thread.
At the same time I don't want to join a herp forum just for this question.

So I will continue to bump my last question until someone elaborates further.

Thank You.

Why do you go with something that already has shown to be good like a zoomed`s 5.0 florescent?
