V. Synspilum

I've had this guy for almost 5 years now. Bought him at about 2" as a Synspilum from my LFS. But I've wondered if he really is Synspilum or a Bifasciatus. They look so similar to me. How do you tell the difference between them? Also do you think mine is male? Here's a progression of pics from young to current.






 
I'm no expert fish IDer by any means, but that just doesn't look like(body shape and coloration) my synspilum or any of the ones I'd ever seen. I'm guessing hybrid......but just guessing
 
Beautiful fish! I can't find Syns or Bifas or any other Vieja type fish in Oklahoma!
 
Here is a bifas I had a few years ago to compare. Looks very similar to yours to me, the horizontal mid-body band, and mid-body blotch above the lateral are bifas indicators. Doesn't look like a cross to me, although without a track of lineage these days, its hard to rule the possibility of a hybrid out due to all the random crossing.
