What's everyone's views on vacation feeders? Does anyone use them for their cichlid tanks when they go out of town? Or do you just make them fast?

I'm going out of town for 2 nights and a day and was considering getting a vacation feeder for my juvenile texas cichlids. I'm afraid if they don't eat they may kill each other, but I don't know if the vacation feeders just dirty your tank or actually provide food. If anyone would recommend a certain brand or type of vacation feeder though, what would it be?

I use the Eheim ones 24/7... Vacation or not.
I also like them because the fish no longer associate me with food, so I can sit in front of the tank and watch them behave "normally" instead of begging. I know, some people like that sort of thing. ;)

I agree, I wouldn't feed either for just two days. Your fish will be just fine. Prolly leave the lights off too:) works good for me

2 days isnt gonna do anything but one time I went out for a wek and used one and they tore it to pieces n when I fished the extra out I missed pieces cause they were like in the deco n ****.... Ended up killon a few fish.... Back in the day.... But if they cichlids what I would do is go out n get like 20 minnows.... They will eat those till they gone... If ur that worried about it

+1 for the eheim everyday feeder. I have two of 'em and they are nice.

I have an oscar that has learned where the food is coming from and he would jump up and hit the feeer. I had to get some industrial strength velcro to hold the feeder in place, otherwise the oscar would knock it until it was no longer hanging over the tank (the feeder would dispense food and it would just pile up on the lid).

Amazon had the best prices I could find when I bought them. If you get one I don't think you'll be disappointed.
