Vallisneria – The One Plant Wonder.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Other good plants for first timers :nilly: : Any anubias (if you can't grow this then you fail, literally needs the minimum of any light you would have on your tank), java fern, java moss.

sweet. definitely gonna see if the LFS has this next trip I make

I don't know if this is a silly question or if it has been covered. I read the link and it said it is ok for cichlid owners but I have sand as substrate. Do I still Have a chance of it growing well. Anything I can do to help it grow? I have a 150g now with 40 all male haps/peacocks, and just purchased a 225g and would like plants in the new tank. I am replacing the 150 with the 225 so it will be established. Also I often throw in some melaflex sp? just because of nipped fins and some feisty activities that the bigger haps inflict on one another. How will medications effect the plants?

Thanks in advance,

Josh

If you put a thin layer of clay in the middle of you sand it will help greatly. Can't say about the meds, I don't use them.

It should grow great in sand with a bit of root fertilization (Seachem makes some nice root tabs). Melafix shouldn't hurt it at all, but copper-based medications can hurt plants.

I really like vals. I put 3 in a 29 gallon SA planted I set up a couple summers ago as a growout for my SAL and had like 15 in no time. I just added some vals and other plants to my lung's 75 now that I removed some of the more herbivorous fish.

Does alright in sand. However some root tabs would help greatly. As sand compacts and often times wont let the mulm down to the roots for it to feed on.
