Today I learned a valuable lesson but it costed me one of my favorite fish.
I have a trash can I pump water in from the faucet so I can treat it and then use a small pump connected to a hose to pump it into the fish tank. Last water change I finished everything up and decided to leave the hose in the tank because I figured "what's the harm?". Today as I started the pump one of my favorite fish shot out of the end of the hose. My Hemibagrus olyroides, dead. He hadn't started to decompose so he had died within 24 hours I imagine. I'm such a fool that made such a stupid mistake that costed me dearly with the life of one of my fish that I cared about dearly. I hadn't even thought about anyone getting stuck in the hose as only a few were even small enough to even have to worry about it but I forgot about him. It is with a heavy heart that I write this but if one person is helped by it then it is worth it.
I plan to get another one but only when I have matured more as a fish keeper.

Sorry for the loss.

I do not deserve sympathy nor do I feel as though I deserve it but I appreciate it yall.

I must say, I believe it was my first post on here where I made a thread about one of my catfish getting stuck in some driftwood. It was one of my raphael catfish I believe.

Very interesting story about the synodontis, I wonder how it got in there in the first place.

I was trying some diy foam/strainer prefilters out for the fx6 that would come disassembled sometimes. The little guy swam right down the intake i assume. I lost my jag cat the same way. He got stuck in the intake though.

I wouldnt be too hard on yourself.

I killed my fish due to an idiotic mistake and it proves just how much more I have to learn in this hobby before I can even begin to consider myself a decent aquarist. I know I'm coming a bit strong here but I am trying to advance as an aquarist and I do not wish to keep making these idiotic mistakes which cost me the lives of the fish I have agreed to care for. Had he been in the hands of a more capable aquarist he would have still been alive today.

Perhaps, however, I can not succeed if I do not push myself to do better.

Don't be so hard mate. You're only a poor keeper if you dont learn from this mistake mate. I nailed two cory cats in my gravel vaccing a few months ago. I felt like such a tosser. Learn from mistakes made, in my eyes mistakes are lifes biggest lessons! Peace !
