I have a Vampire fish/hydrolycus armatus or whatever you want to call it, but thats not important right now. He has some black almost small snail looking thing attached to his lip. Its possible feeder goldfish could have introduced something. I also accidently let the water get pretty cold, much much colder than usual. I have already put the heater on. I going out, but im going to come back and post a picture of it.

Get some pics, we can identify the type of parasite, then recommend the best medication.

Dont medicate until we figure everything out. Alot of meds will kill a payara.

Live feeders can always cause parasites, when I use to feed live feeders I always quarantined them treated them with salt, methylene blue and prazipro before I fed them. But it could be leech or parasite

These are the best pictures i have for now. Whatever was on his lip fell off while i was gone.Right now it just seems like an abrasion from rubbing against the wall.Perhaps what I saw was a small flap of skin? Or maybe it was a fungus or something that fell off with the increase of temperature. Right now Im just gunna keep an eye an him and make sure he eats and recovers.
(if you cant see it in the picture its the tip of his bottom jaw)

I can see some kind of blemish on the mouth but not much more than that, might be some kind of cut or scrape.Keep your water clean and it should heal up soon.

On another note I've been trying to get him off live fish. I tryed starving him for some time and giving him all sorts of things. I read some other post talking about "teacher fish". Can someone maybe refer me to a cheap fish that I could try this out? My armatus is currently alone in his tank and (i havnt measured him so i dont know for sure) maybe like 6 inches? If not more.
Or please refer me to any other ideas.
