here is my red wolf, he's healthy and happy (other then when the ornate is fed up with his antics, hence his tail nips), what variant is it? I know of super red and a couple others and it doesn't look like those, I haven't seen one with such a design going all the way from his snout to his tail other then this. anyone have any idea? is it a yellow hi fin?

ery ery sp Peru AKA purple wolf. They are the subspecie that are chubbier and have less red. Their body consists of mostly purplish brown.

Got any better pics of the head?

Cool! I'll try to get one haha you know how they are, thanks for the ID! Really appreciate it.

Wow that's awesome. I knew it didn't look like others I've seen, and I'm quite happy about the whole purple thing. I like purple lol

haha don't get too excited. It's more of a light browny beige mixed with a hint of purple.

Even if its just a hint I honestly would rather have the hint of purple then the red. Not a big fan of super colorful fish, more of a fan of darker intricate patterns lol so that works out well. Is this a common one to run into?

perus are usually more rarer and harder to get than your regular red ery erys. They sometimes come in the same batch with the red wolves. They can be mislabled. I've kept both and I must say they were both ejoyable to keep. They all had the same personality and such. VERY active fish. I slightly like the ery ery reds more because of the sleeker body, longer fins, and the amount of red.

Nice! It was labeled red hi fin wolf, got a better shot of the head just now here. I'm very conscious about not making my fish fat, I started dividing the tank during feeding so my Peru doesn't steal all the ornate bichirs food. So this one will probably be sleeker then others. I don't like fat fish haha.

I'm not surprised, although I doubt I would trade my lil beauty for a gold wolf now haha as I planned. He's got a colorful sheen in the corner of the mouth I haven't seen in others. I love this lil guy even more now haha he's a beast, snagged him for 30 $ good deal? Haha

AWW crud. After looking at your new pic, your new wolf actually looks like a red ery ery!! :banhim: (me) The previous pics didn't have a clear head shot. The camera angle also screwed the fisn and body proportions a bit. The fins look bigger now. Based on the new pic, the head and body looks like a ery ery red. Your new wold seems a bit stressed (or dim lighting) so the red didn't clearly show. As you can see, more red is starting to unveil. Great price on the wolf BTW.

let it settle down better I screw more stuff up. lol

Oh yeah I didn't have any lights going in the tank (I use a dim blue light to be easier on my bichirs eyes) so that greatly messes with pics and I have dark substrate so that probably effects it also, he may be a bit stressed Cuz he doesn't like the phone following him around the tank haha it took a few shots to get a clear not blurry one.

He does live with an ornate bichir, that may add to his stress and I just got a 75 ga that my bichir is going into and I may keep my wolf alone in a 30 if that's a good sized tank for him. I've had mixed answers to tank size for lone reds ranging from 30 is the minimum to 55 is the largest I've been recommended.

I was kind of excited about the purple thing but oh well, he is still an erynthius that I love, any tips to get him to cut down on jumping? He has everything (a nice dense plant he chills in that you can't even see him in, proper food, and all that. The only thing I can imagine is stressing him out would be that I was also playing music getting ready for work while trying to take his pic so the dub step could have been messing with him.
