So I have one VATF (around 5") 5 Hujeta Gar (4-5") and a tiger shovelnose cat (6-7") and growing fast. I'm thinking about selling a couple gar and getting 3 more VATF to make a good shoal. Does anybody think there are any problems with that? I'm nervous about the catfish getting too big and causing problems...or the ATF's getting hungry and going for the hujeta's

I wouldn't keep multiple atfs in a tank unless it was HUGE. I've tried before (had seven) had to sell them on. Constant fighting. Better to have one A1 ATF rather than 3-4 beat up ones IMO.

I'd worry about that Hujeta, it might get killed by the tiger or eaten by the cat in the long run. Then again you might be lucky and be successful with that combo, Goodluck to you sir :)

I think you should consider selling the tsn.

They grow very fast. atfs are rather slow growers. so your atf(s) could end up as food for the cat.

Thats a given... or get ready to post up the "Oh my gosh:cry:" Thread.

TSNs are known to take down meals that are thick, Juvi ATFS are slim and ready to go down a Cats belly.

I say go for it... try to shoal a pack of ATFs, you can always post them up for sale if it dont work

You can always separate them and put them back in together when you are certain the tsn is no threat.....that's either if you have a divider or a spare tank :) Oh yea forgot to mention my Rtc ate my jardini & baby arapaima, the tsn will have no problem swallowing the atf if they are similar in size.

I have a smaller tank that I'll clean up and set up again for the TSN I guess, probably a good call in every sense (thanks). But I'm still interested in a shoal of ATF's. Ruckusbelow, if you still have those, I'd be interested.

Yea they are still available, if you can leave me your email that would be great:)

get rid of that shovelnose asap. my vittatus was swallowed by a shovelnose hybrid and they were both 5 inches. stomach looked like he ate golf ball. catfish with any oddball characin is a ticking timebomb.
