Received a new 3" VATF Monday, noticed a little minor damage on dorsal
and some missing scales on back behind dorsal. Today I noticed that they
appear whiter. I am afraid that it could become a fungal infection.
Can I treat with salt, if yes how much can/should I treat it with.
If I should use a med what type of meds are tolerated and/or should I use
in half dosage.

Advice please as I already went through pages and pages and could not find
anything substantial. I did find one recommendation on Fungus Clear by Jungle Labs,
which I do have but wanted to back that up with others advice before I treated.

Thanks in Advance.

fish can tolerate melafix, pimafix, and salt. also partial water changes help with these remedies. i had a juvy goliath w eye issues in 30 gal hosp. tank, hi dosages of melafix, salt and pimafix tolerated.

Yep went ahead and treated w/salt the same night I posted this. 1 tbs per
5g and already see a difference. So won't use the meds. I just new that some
Characins don't handle higher doses of salt well is why I asked.

Thanks for your reply

ATF's are fast healers, you'll be surprised.
With injurys to my past ATF's, I've done one thing.....
-water changes
-salt (I don't use much since they heal fast)
-Raise Temp (88* is the highest I've done stress free)
Just make sure to have the tank well aerated

I usually set my temp based on tankmates as ATF's are fine between 76-90*
(atleast in the months span I had my juvies before I remodeled my house)

I hear some stories about VATF aggression so I say grow him up with Dithers in hopes to have a semi peaceful Monster :D
