hey guys, just ordered a pair of vatf and i got some questions i'm hoping i can get answers to. First question is, can they tolerate temperature above 86F? My tank is currently being treated due to a minor ich problem, temperature is currently at 87F. Also i've notice all the fish that are currently housed in my 240 are capable of breathing without an oxygen pump, are the vatf the same? or will i be needing to keep the oxygen pump on? My 7" Vatf was killed by my arrowhead puffer 2 days ago so i did not get a chance to try on him and observe. Thanks guys, I'll get pictures in on monday when i pick them up.

They should be fine with the temp if introduced slowly, but the two VATF will try to each other, not to mention the puffer will try to kill them as well.

Got rid of the sucker :), thanks man

higher the water temp, lower the o2 density.

best to wait until the treatment is over, take ur time and aclimate them if u must.

better idea to keep it aerated, especially if these fish are large relative to tank. my guess is the high current rivers they come from are full of o2.

having current helps as well. gluck

I concur ^

The tiger pack of 6 are doing great, fattening up on rosies. I gotta stop buying live food though, this ich thing keeps coming back. You guys think i should wash my 2 inch of sand :nilly:. If i should what's the easiest way? forgot to mention i have like 20 bundles of live plants randomly scattered throughout the tank:nilly:.

Just stop feeding Live. Start tossing in small pcs of market shrimp. after the first feeding of live, they are now ready to starve and get them on something else (just consider the fact that their growth will slow down). With a pack, you should have a easy time getting them off live food. After a week, Id toss in a very small amount of feeders just so they get a snack

Temp, I have had my tank as hot as 91* (at the time it was a 150gl with 2 6" VATFS and 91* for the whole summer:WHOA:) BUT had lots of aeration in my tank. During one summer a while back I had to put 2litter frozen water bottles in my sump to try and get it cooled down, so 86* is probly perfect :). I have also gone as low as 76* not on purpose (it was only for a 2 days though).
