I currently have a 400 gallon tank with a 6 inch VATF,a 6 inch Payara. I really want a Odoe pike would he get along with my other fish. I have heard they can be aggressive towards other fish. My VATF is my pride and joy. He eats pellets and shrimp has never eaten feeders. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

gotta becareful with Odoes, some are killas, if your VATF is your show piece, then I'd leave it alone. Why take the risk of getting fins damaged and not recovered completely. Unless you have a spare tank you can separate it if it poses a problem.

I agree. With 400 gallons to work with you could probably do an armatus or many more tats in a shoal.... I was reading recently a thread on here where someones odoe badly damaged a good sized goliath which was larger then the odoe so I mean I just probably wouldn't do the odoe your other fish are too cool to risk for a fish that from what I've read usually only lives a few years even in the wild.

Both are a valid piont - theres no garuntee any predatory charciforme cohab will work - with that being said my Ode lives with 3 species of cuda, brycon, and prior to it's death a payara. On the flip side - I lost a Gatf to a senagal bichir of all things, it's a risk reward or loss gamble.

I had 2 good size African pike n they both were skittish. Now I only have the big one prob 16" but it is a huge food hog. Just my experience with em but they have been with rays bass gars etc
