Hey all,
I've got a community tank of South and Central Americans. JD's,green terrors, convict, salvinis and eba. Just wondering what vegetables you guys feed them. Want to give them something different besides just pellets and bloodworms.
TIA.
Easiest veggies are in New Life Spectrum Algaemax. It has 6 types of seaweed, algae and spirulina. You don't need terrestrial vegetables for the fish species you mentioned. If you really want to add a veggie, use plain Nori (seaweed).
I know a guy who regularly feeds canned peas to his Cincelichthys and Vieja. He just rinses the peas in water to reduce the salt. The cichlids are crazy for them. Even the Petenia splendida eat it greedily.
Not cichlids, but my silver dollars love canned garbanzos and dry sunflower seeds. I give these as treats, once a week or so, along with everything else I feed.
On garbanzo days (my 4 tanks get it), everybody, from angels to dollars, to prochilodus, tetras and plecos love the event. I celebrate insect and crustacean days too, as well as varied pellets and flake.
And then, there is nori mornings which are also celebrated by all - some fish munch on the algal piece, tetras and others get the bits that fly in all directions.
