Hey guys,
Been a while since I've been on here, but I was looking through some forums and decided to just start this one.

Anybody feed raw vegetables to their cichlids? I've been thinking about this for some time. I see some people give cucumber slices, but is there anything else good for them too? I have mostly pecocks, some mbuna and an L. calvus in there and want everybody to get the most out of all the food I give.

Since all I've been feeding them is flakes, bloodworms, and pellets, how should I start with the lettuce? Just let it float on top for the day?

Make sure your cichlid is a vegetarian or omnivore before feeding vegetable matter. Most fish will eat a bit of plant or vegetable matter as a supplement occaisionally but carnivores should be fed primarily meat. It's not easy to get them to take veggies either once they're trained to something else either but worth it for fish that are vegetarian.

Peacocks, mbuna, and an L. calvus if anyone has any ideas.

Mbuna will probally be the only ones who eat it. Try the lettuce raw first, boiling it takes out nutrients.

I have got peacocks as well, I will be interested to see how this works out. I have never tried straight veggie matter for them. They get a mix of Hikari Complete, Hikari Bio-Gold, Freeze Dried Blood Worms, and when I have some raw meat I will toss that in for them.

They always take nibbles out of the algea waffers for the crawfish and pleco. I had tried lettuce before with some other fish and they never ate it. I rotate the food that I feed, never feeding the same thing over and over or getting into a schedule. I find this keeps them the most interested in everything.

They are little pigs all of them haha the smallest one just eats and eats and eats, he is about 1.5" right now growing like a weed.
