Hey FH folks!..have been feeding both types of grandsumo but looking into changing them up to hikari gold & excell maybe or something else that offers better veggie nutrition & hopefully save a few $ compared to grandsumo. Also I heard peas are gd..which ones do people use (fresh, canned, frozen). Any other veggie choices other than peas that FH's are willing to take? How healthy is grandsumo compared to other pellet choices?

GS is great top shelf fh food. The regular is better than the red imo. gs Red is good for red fish.

Fishes look grrreat on Hikari gold just as much but havent fed that for a long time because GS seems more potent

Fh's by their nature are omnivores so a vegetable diet along with a protein diet is a pretty good idea you have. People often feed peas as a laxative to clear their digestive system so feeding it more than once or twice a week could be a little hard on them imo. But its all debatable so I will leave you to make the decision of how often to feed peas. I've only fed frozen peas and I know the community widely uses frozen peas but not canned or fresh from my knowledge. As of any other vegetables, anything that your fh will take. Many of my fhs don't even take peas anymore as they matured to adults.

they dont eat peas like how ppl say it so easily.

I've never seen a FH eat peas before.

Depends on the flowerhorn my male silk demolishes them and my female red dragon won't touch them the male offspring same as their dad the female offspring are like their mom its so strange

My fries and juveniles readily accept peas with little hesitation but it seems as they mature they don't seem to enjoy it eating peas and would rather have a more meaty diet.

OK guys. I will try some frozen peas and see if my they swallow them. I'll keep trying if it fails the first time. I have 4 flowerhorns and they're not babies anymore so they might be set in their ways now. Excited to buy some peas tomorrow and at least try it, but I will only feed sparingly with them like mentioned so it doesn't upset their stomachs too much. It's hard to not fall in love with these amazing wetpets. Just want them to live long lives

I've had my FH's for a year now and they've pretty grown up on GS. They do love it! It was cheap when they were small. A container of each would last me, now I need 3 containers of each to last me a little while.lol...It gets expensive!! I think I might combine the regular GS and a veggie pellet of some kind for the non red FH. Hope that works, thx

My FH eats fruits and veggies. As for veggies, I feed him blanched zucchini, cucumber, cauliflower, chayote squash and fresh avocado. He doesn't like peas so I occasionally put it in his homemade gel food.

Wow, that's awesome. I'm game to try any of them. Do you feed this stuff often, every day? How do you make the gel food? Is it messy?
