I bought this one as a synspilum at around 2" in April. Now probably pushing 8" TL. It has quite a bit more black than any synspilum I have seen pics of. Any ideas?

is he in with more aggressive fish that hes afraid of? if so that can stress a fish out and turn them really dark

Looks like it very well could be a synspi under that stress.

Interesting. It is the biggest fish in my 180G by an inch or two. Tankmates are a chocolate, 2 severums, a blue acara, a nic, centrarcus pair and some cons and cutteri. It is involved in territory disputes, but rarely loses.

looks synspilum to me too,i had a pearsei that stayed dark for almost a year than one day the colors just popped.(still dont know why)
