What are some of the worst experiences you've had with online stores? Your choice to post the vendor's name, it warns other hobbyists who to avoid. However if you want to say that you had a bad experience with someone, please give the actual experience. Don't just come on here to bash someone you've never ordered from before.

Feel free to share great experiences as well. We can't just have a thread of bashing people, we've got to let everyone know who the good vendors are too!

Here's mine. The only time I have ever (so far) ordered any livestock online, and it was bad. The store is Your Fish Store, an entirely online store.

It's appealing because of all the rare and odd stock they have, for super cheap. I placed an order consisting of a tiretrack eel, delhezi bichir, figure 8 puffer, oscar, and an ornate bichir. I waited for the scheduled arrival date, they never came. I texted, called, emailed, wondering what had happened, a bit stressed out since it was my first time ordering online. No response. So next day, nothing arrives. No reponses either, I texted and called him with no response. Straight to voicemail every time I called. I understand if I was being bothersome, but they were late, I was worried, and the least you can do is respond or give a reason why you can't.

So the fish were supposed to arrive Wednesday, by Friday I got a package. The fish were well packed, I'll say that. However when I opened the box I removed the bags - fish count was 2 guppies, a kissing gourami (I believe), a tiretrack eel, and the puffer. The puffer and eel got acclimated, as he had told me they quarantine each fish individually as they don't have fish on hand, they order them and QT them for you. There was also a note that said that my order qualified for "freebies", which is why I got the gourami and guppies. The gourami was beyond dead - it was decaying, I think he shipped it dead because there's almost no way it died in that bag. The guppies were fine, went straight into the tank too. I immediately text the guy and say thanks, the fish are beautiful, can I get a replacement for the gourami, when can I expect the rest of my order, thanks, etc. Immediate reply - no problem, you can get another freebie. I ask again - when can I expect the rest of my order? A few hours later he says he'll send it soon. I ask when that is, getting annoyed again, never replies.

So it's Monday by now, I've been trying to contact this guy and he has replied with absolutely nothing. The puffer isn't eating and the eel won't either. Tried everything they had at the LFS, and everything that people have said to feed them on here. Eventually the puffer got eating and the eel still wasn't. Tuesday the guy texts back, asks me to calm down and my order is almost ready. I ask what that means - no reply. I ask what he had the eel eating - no reply.

Come SATURDAY of that week, he finally texts back. He says if I don't calm down he won't ship my order. AFTER I PAID HIM. I'm annoyed, call him constantly, and then give it a rest. Next Tuesday I send a formal email, telling him I expected my package you still haven't sent it after like 2 weeks, and I will gladly leave you a good review online if you send something else, no need for anything big, just something like some ghost shrimp or whatever. He says no problem, I'll send you your order and some food. I agree, tell him I can leave a good review as soon as I get my order. He says he picked out a nice oscar for me, sent me a pic too. I said I couldn't wait to get it in, he also said he had the bichirs in stock.

It's Friday, no package. I finally call this guy, I'm pissed now. He says someone "came in" and bought the oscar. The one that was set aside for me. But how did someone come in to get it - they don't have a walk-in location. He starts to get an attitude, now we're practically in a screaming match over this. I tell him to send my fish or I will personally come and pick them up myself. He says OK! and loudly hangs up.

Next Monday - nothing. I call this guy one more time, I tell him that I cancelled the credit card purchase and he can't do anything about it. He cusses me out, and tells me if I don't revoke it I'll be arrested. I told him that I didn't get half of my order yet and all butv one fish died (the eel did end up dying). I then told him, after being cussed at again, that /i will take this to court and in return cussed him out. So this guy FINALLY refunds me, and this hell is over now.

Long story short, just order from already reputable sources, and definitely not YFS.

Sounds terrible bro. Sorry you went through that, sounds like you handled it well.

My main guy for years was King fish Joe at tropical fish distributors or TFD. I used to call and chat for 45 minutes about life, fish, politics, anything. He'd give me discounts and freebies. He would ship whatever you wanted anywhere. Probably bought a thousand fish from that guy. Always a great experience. It's a shame they closed down. Now the only "online" distributors I use are friends on thailand and Malaysia who import exotics.

I've read so many horror stories it's hard to try someone new. I hate wasting money and most of all hate the wasted loss of life with poor distributors.

I posted mine almost 4 years ago and just do not want to rehash it. If you want you can check out my old post.

Why the negativity?

Let's just focus on good stories that can serve as positive references for members.

On a somewhat relatable note, I detest when people I do business with; ignore e-mails, calls etc. It's highly unprofessional, and nothing infuriates me more lol.

One of my good reviews is to The Fish Room in Wilmington NC. Haven't been to the Raleigh or Charlotte store, but the Wilmington one has pretty decent selection, and great staff. They will rarely sell to someone without the proper setup which I love.

Wes, from Rare Fish...beyond awesome. My order was stuck outside in a delivery truck at an airport during an ice storm last year. Before the fish even arrived, he was offering to replace them for free. However, they arrived just fine, just a little chilly.
