I just purchased this pleco from my lfs, and it was labled as a venezuelan tiger. It was fairly cheap so i picked it up. I cannot find anything on the web about this species so i am wondering what i actually got. Any ideas on what the name of this fish is, or the L# associated with it?

Thanks for the compliments. I have looked through 3 or 4 different L# listings and L 75 and 127 are the closest that i could find. I suppose it doesnt matter too much, but i would like to sedate my curiosities. Thanks again for the help.

can you get any closer, clearer shots of the plec. it's hard to tell from those pics but it doesn't look quite like an L75. have you checked out L147. I have a plec that looked like a clown pleco with spots on its head when it was really small, but as it's grown it looks a bit more like an L75 but without the crisp coloration of a real L75. the closest I've found to it was L147. Here are pics of my L75 on top and what I think might be an L147 on bottom. :)

It's probably a L147. They're commonly found as contaminents in shipments of Clown Plecos (L104)

I bought mine at 2.5" long four months ago. The worker didn't know what it was and charged me just $1.95 for it. It's currently grown to 3.5"

Here's a photo of mine...

yours looks just like mine and that's also how I got mine...it was in a tank with a bunch of clown plecos. I happened to look close enough and notice the one with spots on his head and snatched it up for like $4-5. :D

It shouldn't be too hard finding more of them. IMHO, they're more attractive than clown plecos with it's body having spots and then transitioning to stripes. I also heard that they're worth two-three times more than clown plecos. More reason to get more of them. Good luck w/ your pleco.
