okay I have a roommate, I got him interested in fish almost two years ago when I let him buy some africans and keep them in my african tank. since than he's bought his own tanks, stock etc and I'l be honest this guy buys only the best food,filters,water supplements etc. but that has to do with his beliefs you can cure a tank rather than maintain it well, and the fact he uses expensive stuff over me makes him think he is a better or more intelligent fishkeeper than me, anyways now its his hobby too, we have 7 tanks in the house, around 300gallons total, used to be his one tank was a 55G african tank. I'm more a CA,catfish and native guy. anyways from time to time he would add water to my tanks if I wasnt home for a few days, trying to be nice I understand. I know he feeds all my fish cuz I always find uneaten pellets in my tanks. now I dont know if this is normal but when it comes to my tanks, I cringe just thinking of anyone else touching them. seriously. so I told him a couple times now "hey bro listen, do me a favour and dont touch my tanks, or feed the fish" and this works for a while and than presto, he's back to involving himself with my tanks in some way or other. I only have two peeves livin with this guy, 1) dont touch my tanks and 2) turn off the aquarium lights when your not home or are going to bed. I come home all the time and he's got every bulb in the aquariums on like were a LFS or somthing. so this is my roommate, now it also pisses me off that he has been in this hobby about 16 months with africans only and yet he always thinks he knows more than me and half the time its just him being ignorant, because he refuses to read up very much on anything that interests him. now the other day I picked up a 80 gallon Bowfront with the Pro2, 4 row t5's etc and set it up, I decided to go with africans since it is quite the show tank and he drops his jaw like "no, I think thats a stupid idea, WE already have an african tank in the house, and it will just take away from my tank and its just not a good idea"...what??!? already I can see his way of thinking coming out, first off I remember the day he brought this 55G home with the stand and the fancy T5's, AC500 etc I was happy for him, he got his first nice tank, I was excited to see what he would stock, I only had 4 29G's at the time but that was all cool with me because I was interested in my own fish, I was happy and very interested with what I had. also him saying we already have an african tank.?? no its YOU have an african tank, its yours because you can add or remove fish, change the landscape, do anything to it because its yours, not mine. so anyways I set up the damn 80G Bow and he decides he's gonna give me all his africans because his tank looks ridiculous now and he's taking this personal like a sore loser or somthing, so he decides he's gonna take the dovii we got (6") and put it in the 55G for a grow out set up. well I take his fish, tell him he shouldnt take it personal, he should instead dig deep inside of himself and get rejuventaed with the hobby, maybe come up with a new landscape idea or stock somthing new to him. he dosent want to do any of tha, well apparently this guy is getting bored of his fish now, and he's taking an affinity to my piranha tank (5 3"RB's) so I leave for a couple days and this is what happens. remember I said to leave the damn lights off? remember I said to not touch my tanks? I come home today to find he's taken my quarantine tank and stocked it with about 60 rosy reds!, so I'm looking around the room and I'm guessing its to feed the dovii of his, well than I look at my piranha tank and....theres about 20 rotting carcasses of rosy reds stuck to the filkter pick up and scattered on the floor. and the piranhas...have theyre eyes all white and rotting so they cant see at all, theyre fins are rotting off, look like zombie fish and nobody will survive this outbreak I bet, and he's got aquarium salt by the tank, as if he thinks this is gonna fix it. see he's so close minded he thinks you can fix problems by dumping crap in a tank rather than cleaning it properly. in the 80G theres pellets floating around as if he has fed them, and both racks of T5's are on. I dont know what to do with this guy. I have told him nicely, I have told him multiple times. I may move half of the tanks into my bedroom and the other half to my girlfriends or I may just move out. I am so mad I dont know what to say or do,

locking canopies? ya and I'l start putting locks on the fridge,cupboards, linen closet etc. thats the whole point. I shouldnt have to lock things up where I live
thats sucks bro....my little brother does stupid crap to mine all the time hes 14 an old enough to know better, one time i came home from a trip only to find the substate covered with fish flakes and my filter running dry and the water was almost too cloudy to see....i was so mad
I was gonna put the piranhas in his dovii tank and put his dovii in theyre tank, so he could come home and get a shocker himself, but its not the dovii's fault and besides, I really like that evil little bastard
hmm. do what i do. when my sister pisses me off. i go into her room and steal about 10 dollars. makes me feel better. plus i get some cash.
You could get a timer for your lights. That way he shouldn't be turning them on/off. Really sounds like a PIA of a roommate.
