Does anyone have any information or images on sexing salvinis? I'm 99% sure mine is male, but now is a good time for me to learn how to vent cichlids anyway. I have gone to a couple of sites but the difference between sexes seems to vary with species.

from what i understand male salvinis are a much more intense yellow and the female less, this is what i saw when i had a pair.

I was looking for experience with vent sexing. I have one individual with no black spot on the operculum, but a red spot instead.

i think the female has a red spot. Males have a V shaped pointier vent and females will have a larger rounded U shaped vent.

but of course an even better question would be how big is the salvini, if it is two small venting at such a size and/or age can be very difficult.

I'd say he's about 7 or 8 inches. He was definitely the dominant fish in his old tank and he loves to re-do all of my aquascaping by pulling out plants and sand and moving it to the very front of the tank.

ok yeah you shoeld be able to vent at that size. basically what i stated before. the female willh ave a large rounded U shaped vent and the male with have a smaller V shaped vent.
