Hi
Any venting experts with a good eye around?
Could you please have a look on the picks and share your opinion?
Male or female?

First one looks not matured enough to be able to tell properly. If I had to guess, I would say male.

Second one is a bit blurry but I would go with female. A better picture might make it more clear.

I'd agree except on the first one. The venustus looks to be a female to me based on the vent size and on the coloration. Generally I find that venustus are very easy to sex at a young age due to color differences between the 2 sexes.

Thanks for your input.
What are this differences between two sexes??
Here is a pic of my venustus, at certain angles a blue shine is visible on the face and body.

As you can see with this pic here, a female will be more of the green color with darker patches like yours is, while a male will generally have atleast a bright blue beard when not in breeding dress and when he is in breeding dress he will look like the bright blue male in the pic.

I am aware how looks fully adult and developed venustus male but my is only 4-4.5in long in a all male tank with bigger tankmates.
Today i shot a pic before lights go on and there is visible a little bit of blue on this fish face - could this be male then? Or females also are showing a lil bit of blue on face?
I would like to know because there is new shipment of fish in my store and they have few venustus which looks like male to me but I doesn’t want to end up with two males. C9588DF5-7C36-4919-AD97-12E18148B35A.jpegC9A6AB28-0184-45C9-AFA9-E84331C43739.jpeg

I'd still say it's female. I know when I had venustus a few years ago, only had the 2, I could see the difference in gender at about 2.5-3in, got them at 1in each. I ended up with 1 male and 1 female but sadly the male ended up killing the female so I ended up rehoming the male afterwards. The male way only 4in when I ended up rehoming him. If yours was male I would expect a bit more blue around the face. If yours is the biggest in the tank it might explain why it's got a lil bit of blue sheen too it. I know atleast with African cichlids it's not too uncommon for a female to assume the dominant role in the tank and take on a bit manlier appearance. Just like how if a male is the smallest in the tank they may take on a more submissive role and look more like a female.

Btw what all do ya have it housed with? Can't remember if you've said already but it might explain why yours looks the way it does depending on whether it's towards the top or bottom of the size chart.
