My question is, can u buy just the valves themselves? or is it kind of an industry secret and they keep em hidden away under lock and key? anyone happen to know a web site?
If your talking about the ones they make the pythons out of then look no farther than the waterbed accessory area. I must have had 10 or 15 of those things laying around when my son and I still had waterbeds. They predate the pythons by the way and no doubt gave the "inventor" the idea.
I've bought some a couple years ago thru Aquatic Ecosystems, one was called a Mazzei, and there was also a more economical version in their catalogue that works fine. I believe Kent Marine also sells them, if you have a stronge enough pump you can get a Spa Jet, which is also a large venturi, from hot tub dealers.
the Mazzei is the white PVC in the middle of the pic with the plastic tube trying to be vertical, I used it on my DIY protein skimmer.
there we go duanes. exactly what im wanting one for. i think i can make one. but im gonna put a thread up when i attempt my protein skimmer. IF it works half ass, ill post pics and a thread that is.
I'll be very interested in DIY version, I've contemplated it using PVC reducers, and that doohicky you glue on the side of pipe and drill threw to create the aperature.
im very close to being done with the whole thing. the hardest part, of course, is the home-made venturi. but if my math is right(which i doubt, lol) it should work fine. but we'll see.
A "home made" venturi, though very crude looking, can be made with a simple appropriately sized tee, a length of the same size pipe, and a cap.
Plumb it into the system and start with a small hole in the cap.
Increase hole size as needed.
Or, to get even "fancier", use a gate valve in the venturi leg to adjust the intake.
