I have to venustus, got then about 3 months ago when they were appx 1-2 inches long, they are great eaters and have more than doubled in size. anyone know when they typically develop their adult color patterns? I actually am starting to see red highlights in their fins but no yellow/blue yet.

also, anyone with pics of adults?
 
I have a venustus as well around 1 1/2 inch, the yellow coloring should be appearing in the bottom of the fish. Mine has all yellow at the bottom already, as with the blue, the top fins should be blue already. I think the face only turns blue if it is a male. If you could post some pics that would be great.
 
usually about 3 or so inches you start to see if its a male or female. like the above poster stated, males will have a beautiful blue/purplish head and cheeks, and the female will stay a drab brown and yellow... i have a 9 inch male, he is my prize baby... but beware, they are piscovores and prey on any fish they can cram in their fat heads lol.. i had to seperate mine from the rest of my africans--he now lives alone (for now) in a 90 gallon tank..
 
yea mine are about 3 inches each. when i bought them i was told they were venustus hybrids so im not sure what the end results will be. they're definitely getting a yellowish color on their belly and the tip of their fins have some red in them.
 
red, eh? i wonder what theyre mixed with-normal v's dont have any red on them.. it would be interesting to see how they look full grown!

yes they are brother and sister ...i raised them from beautiful parents.. thanks very much.

Do you mean the young ones...? No not yet...and i don't want them too.. so i will have to separate if it becomes a problem... i doubt they will be able to in this very active tank... i have parents separated for now too... i still have about 25 babies... sold alot of them...
