not where I'm supposed to be
Ive had Jags over the yrs but none have acted like this one. It's claimed a small side in the tank and is only picked on by the festae. the crazy thing is unless it chasing food or swimming to it, it swims vertically as if about to spring out the water. Every time I try to get a pick it gor hori on me.

any clue to why or has anyone else had the fish do this?

It's sounds like he is tring to escape from the festa..... often if you see a fish acting like this they will get sick and die from the stress.

I would move this fish to another tank.

how big are the fish? i have a Krussie that acts the same way. although no one picks on him. so i kinda would like to know my self. i know a couple of my fish do this when they are getting picked on though. maybe to make them selfs look bigger then they are? like i said though my krussie does it and no one picks on him. good question.

well like i said my krussie does that and no one really picks on him. so before you go getin rid of your jag lets see what some other people say.

I have a 3" Jag that claimed a certain area of the tank. It stays in a vertical position too. But then mine only does it while resting between the stems of a big plant. Kinda like its hiding inside the plant for prey to swim by and ambush it.

It swims around like normal alot tho. It's just that It also goes to the "ambush spot" and just chills there for a long time everyday.

My friend had a oscar that was doing that and ended up dying. Don't know from what though. I would get him outta that tank ASAP

I think that it may be a defensive mode,if anybody out there has ever had a smaller Oscar, you would have noticed them doing this almost all the time,my small Jag did this most of the time when i had him in the same tank with my Dovii,if you can just find him a new home.Just my opinion, get rid of the Festea. :woot:

rid the festea... why would you do such a thing? and over a jaguar no less? everyone and thier mother has a jaguar. not everybody has a festea.if anything ditch the jag like planned.

My Jag does something similar. He'll swim above this one plant, dive straight to the base, then 180 himself and face straight up, motionless. I think he's trying to trick the Danios into getting close enough to catch.
