Haven't been posting much lately, so I decided to shoot a quick video of my male Notatus while I was admiring his lovely temper today. They have been spawning back to back the past couple of months, and failing miserably. The male keeps eating the eggs on the second day, and then harrasses the female the next few weeks until they spawn again. I think I'll call them Ike and Tina, or maybe Bobby and Whitney? Anyways I decided to divide them, and see if I would be more successful. So far so good, although alot of eggs were unfertilized, and removed by the female, they are still there through day 2. And my male usually gets pretty tempermental in these times, but I'm scared to even put my hand in the tank now. He's furious he can't get to the other side, and has declared war on the egg crate barrier....and my finger.

I wanna try breed my Rotkeil. Need to buy a mate soon :D Great vid!! :D

He's a handsome guy. He's definitely showing off his colors.

I just reintroduced mine to one of his ladies but he seems to forget what to do with her. He was a pimp last year, trying to spawn with three females all at once, but they've been apart and now he acts uninterested.

Even when he was spawning, he never got aggressive or protective. I could put my hand in the tank and the females would attack me, but he would just kind of sit there. It's funny how different personalities can be with individual fish.

Thanks. It's just been the last 2-3 months that he's been acting like this. He used to be a wimp and run and hide whenever anyone came near. Not sure sure what triggered the change?

Gorgeous fish!!

Thank you.

I love him.. I vote for Ike and Tina  it's funny how temperments can vary so much from fish to fish within the same genus or even species.

I used to have a glassbanging swordtail that would beat up 7"+ sevs pretty often.. (< no joke) maybe pick up a few and he may calm down. ;)

wow they've grown! Are they in the tank alone? They defended eggs in my community tank.

Ike sure looks mad. He knows who separated him from his Tina :D

Yes. I they've been alone for about 4 weeks. Tina seems to be enjoying the break from Ike. She's been really outgoing lately, even eating out my hand.
