very injured barbel

so my spotted gar bit the longest barbel of my shovel nose cat, and the gar didnt let go. the two of them got into a struggle, and then end result was the "skin" on the barbel being torn off, but the white stringy tissue stuff, or whatever was in it is still hanging there. it looks painful and is bloody...

any advice?

with his barbel grow back?

I actually feel so bad for my shovel nose..
