Not gonna lie, my brain hurts after reading this through but its a great read if you have a mind for this kind of thing!

very complicated read but it is fascinating, im sure some of you will enjoy it
according to the DNA sequencing they did, mokelembembe is a sister taxon to the rest of the poly group, seperate from the rest of polypterus. as everyone probably suspected, senegals palmas (all species they had) and teugelsi are all closely related. Ornate weeksii and retropinnis are also closely related (as was suspected from myself at least) with the lower jawed bichirs being the ones with the least biodiveristy and all being very very closely related. just wow, the detail this study goes into is astounding, and finding that mokelembembe is a sister taxon could possibly mean there are (or were at least) many ohter species of bichir yet to be taxonomically classified.
thats why i love this hobby, finding species not properly taxonomically examined is great! i may have one, yet to be positive so i dont want to say i do, sp. Peru purple wolf fish. The more i look at mine and pics of other red hi fins mine just looks different. another member on here pointed it out to me.
Like JAs sp. Dabola, we can probably expect more variety of bichir to come
