Just got a 5-6" bowfin a couple of weeks ago. If I run a light or even aproach the tank he completely FREAKS OUT!!! Slamming into glass, top, filter etc.... He eats... and hides, but I can't get anywhere near him without it spazzing completely. Will this subside over time, what should I do....???????
Help?????

he need to geet used to u. just sit down around the tank for a while. eventually he will get used to u and wont freak out as he was at the first place. i used this method when i introduced my ck. he would freak out then for like a month i played my psp in fron of the tank, now he roams everywhere. gets happy when im around. lol

You can provide some hiding space or introduce some compatible tankmates of the same size for it. BTW, please post in the "Cold Water, Temperate and North American Native fish" forum when its bowfin related.

I would add some guppy grass or other types of stringy plant. He can sit in it, and you can still see him, but he will think he's hidden.

I would put a fan in front of the tank, with ribbons blowing on it. The bowfin will get used to the movement.
