I have 2 Jaguar Cichlids about 7 inches each in my 90 gallon tank. Nothing else is in the tank.I've had them for a few weeks now. They are always hiding when the lights are on.I am only using 2 small strip lights from 5 gallon tanks for lighting and some floating plastic plants.Wondering if I can put some dither fish like silver dollars in the tank to make them feel less shy.I realize the dither fish have to be big enough so Jaguars can't eat them.Water parameters are PH 7.2,0 Ammonia,0 Nitrites,15 ppm Nitrates.I change 50 per cent of the tank water 2 times a week.Any advice?

Young Jags are shy until about 8-9 inches although some are out going from the start. Dithers would help bring them out their shells although they will eventually eat them

give them a chance, can take awhile, are they male? female? or a pair? makes a big dif with what can go in with them. and if you need to tank upgrade.

The person I got them from said they were a wild mated pair from Costa Rica. They had spawned once before for him.

Well eventually you'll need a bigger tank but for now that's ok. A mated pair will kill any and everything in tanks up to 180 gallons. A 125 will be adequate for them once they put on some size. Dithers like silver dollars could work but if they should begin to spawn they will be slaughtered

+1 no tank mates and well need a bigger tank. If they are 2 WC nice freebee. can post some pics?

A LFS has one Jaguar for sale. It's around the same size.Dont know if it's a male or female.I guess that would be a bad idea putting another jag in the tank. Also got to figure out the pic thing again.
