Hey everyone :-/

Haven't had any sick fish in awhile, and now when I get one, it instantly turns into two.

Weenie, one of my Delhezis, started it off. It began as a little hole on his head. Now, I have no idea if this is real HITH hexamita, and I have no idea if bichirs can even get that, but the little hole is getting bigger and deeper. We've sadly started calling him "CraterFace". As far as appetite and activity, there has been no change. Still eating very well, still swimming all over the place, and still one of the very first to rip into his chunk of market shrimp. Here are the pictures...

Last night, I noticed that Cyclops (one of the Kings of my collection - had him for what seems like forever) was very very sick. His last existing eye was covered over in a film and looked sort of blue, and his face was covered in what looked like chunks of flesh. Not moving much at all - the only way he'd move in the tank was if another fish bumped into him and he slid the other way. I didn't think he'd make it thru to the morning, but he did. The film isn't as big as it was last night, but when I was taking the following pics, I noticed he is getting a little hole on the tip of his nose. I swear though, last night the stuff on his eye reminded me of one of those bubble-eyed goldfish.

Also, take a peak at the spot where his eye USED to be in the second picture. What is that yellow spot? It's covered over in something, and if I was really crazy I would say it looks like he's regrowing an eye... but that's impossible, I know.

I moved both fish into a hospital tank this morning and gave them a bunch of stress coat for now. Any recommendations on where to go from here? I know Weenie will be okay for a little while - the crater is obviously a problem but my main concern there is that it's getting a lot bigger and deeper. Not entirely sure where the brain on a bichir is located, but I'm assuming if the crater gets to that spot, he'll be a goner instantly. I am going to look on my camera because I think I got a more clear picture of the hole - if I did I'll post it in a minute.

ugh... my poor baby...

wow, poor lil' guy. i hope your fish get better soon.

Any recommendations on medication?? Maracyn2??

idk what to say, i've never delt with something like this with bichirs, since two of them have it then it must be some sort of parasite or something nasty like that imo....still anne would probably know most about what this could be.

I'm so shocked... I thought Cyclops would be dead by this morning, if not the very next to go. And my boyfriend sent me a text message a few hours after I got to work telling me one minute CraterFace was swimming around and fine, the next dead on the bottom. *!* He took some photos of the hole... Poor Weenie. Crap man. If this is a fast spreading flesh eating some sort of disease Imma lose it. Pix to follow.

lookit all that green... he was a good lookin fish huh?? :(

that sucks....a bad way to start off the new year

You're tellin me. Now I'm extra worried about Cyclops - I've had him since... um... 05? And there are some other special fish that were exposed... including Badass (another Del I got when I purchased Cyclops) and Molly (a female Polli I'm growing out to be best friends with my big male). There are others in there as well but they aren't quite as important as the first two. AAAAAAAAAAAANd now I'm all paranoid about if I cross contaminated with a net on accident and took it to all the other tanks... I had one new fish with a disease knock out an entire fully stocked tank in 3 days about 4 years ago. Granted, those were just cheap community fish, not expensive and well loved bichirs, but I keep thinking about how fast they all died... GRRRRRRRR!
