Hey everyone :-/
Haven't had any sick fish in awhile, and now when I get one, it instantly turns into two.
Weenie, one of my Delhezis, started it off. It began as a little hole on his head. Now, I have no idea if this is real HITH hexamita, and I have no idea if bichirs can even get that, but the little hole is getting bigger and deeper. We've sadly started calling him "CraterFace". As far as appetite and activity, there has been no change. Still eating very well, still swimming all over the place, and still one of the very first to rip into his chunk of market shrimp. Here are the pictures...
Last night, I noticed that Cyclops (one of the Kings of my collection - had him for what seems like forever) was very very sick. His last existing eye was covered over in a film and looked sort of blue, and his face was covered in what looked like chunks of flesh. Not moving much at all - the only way he'd move in the tank was if another fish bumped into him and he slid the other way. I didn't think he'd make it thru to the morning, but he did. The film isn't as big as it was last night, but when I was taking the following pics, I noticed he is getting a little hole on the tip of his nose. I swear though, last night the stuff on his eye reminded me of one of those bubble-eyed goldfish.
Also, take a peak at the spot where his eye USED to be in the second picture. What is that yellow spot? It's covered over in something, and if I was really crazy I would say it looks like he's regrowing an eye... but that's impossible, I know.
I moved both fish into a hospital tank this morning and gave them a bunch of stress coat for now. Any recommendations on where to go from here? I know Weenie will be okay for a little while - the crater is obviously a problem but my main concern there is that it's getting a lot bigger and deeper. Not entirely sure where the brain on a bichir is located, but I'm assuming if the crater gets to that spot, he'll be a goner instantly. I am going to look on my camera because I think I got a more clear picture of the hole - if I did I'll post it in a minute.
