i have two silver arowanas (a 25inch and a 16 inch) in a 180 gallon with a motoro stingray, the problem is that i cant even walk by the tank with out having the arowanas jumping out and almost killing their selfs. they never used to be like this the tank has always been in the same place i dont have bright lights on the tank either. how can i help them to not be so skittish.

Thanks alot!

Sounds like they have stress which could be related to your water params, you need to test also a ray w/ 2 giant aros in a 180 isnt big enough, more space + clean water w/ good diet equals happy healthy fish!!!!

Turn lites off and tomorrow change 30-50% water and test!!!

Don't Stingrays need like 300 gallons?

Okay, Aro's are jumpy. Silvers are the worse! Here's what you need to do: I like using Bala Sharks as "Dither" fish but any fast swimming very active fish will do. What happens with the fast active fish is it calms the Aro's. They start thinking this fast chasing game between the Balas is normal. My Bala's are constantly chasing each other. When I walk up to the tank nothing changes so the Aro thinks everything is fine and they don't get jumpy.

Also I do not do water changes by dumping a percentage of water out and refilling, this is very stressful to the Aro's. I trickle water into the tank 24/7.

I don't gravel vac unless it's absolutely necessary.

I do not add or remove fish very often unless it's absolutely necessary.

I only clean the glass at night when the tank lights are on and the room lights are off and it's very dark in the room. This minimizes what the Aro's can see out side the tank. If they start getting jittery I stop cleaning.

my amateur opinion is that you can do one of 2 things get a bigger tank, or separate the 2 arowanas. seems like a crowded surface for those two.
