I got a bunch of new fish recently with the pasting of my big wolffish. One was a 1.5" barred Midas. At first I had it with 2 female firemouths, a sveni pike and a belly crawler pike. Due to many vicious fights between the sveni pike and firemouths I got rid of all three. So for a few days it's just been the belly crawler and the barred Midas. The pike has gotten comfortable but the Midas is far from that. Every time I so much as walk by the Midas dashes to hide behind the filter intake. Before the sveni left they were besties. The pike would fight with the two firemouths and the little Midas would back him up. Could it being so skittish be due to the fact that his buddy is gone to a new home

He is little and new so it will take some time to settle in. You might want to add some cheap, expendable dithers. Giant danios or something like that might help make it feel more secure.

I just got some royal plecos and I've noticed him coming out alittle more.

I just acquired a new labiatus myself 2" that does the same. It will get used to you over time as it gets bigger no worries. My go to for dithers with small amphilophus or parachromis are tigers barbs. Get 6 of them & they should do fine. They can shrug off a chase & are tough as nails.

The barbs aren't a bad idea. I'll give that a try if he doesn't start to come around
