Hey everyone,

I have a pair of JD's in a 55. My female is pushing 4" and my male is about 3.5". They have been showing signs some signs of mating behavior but they are extremely skittish. The only way that they will come out of their pots or from under their driftwood is when I come to the front of the tank with food in my hand.

I was wondering if I am doing something wrong or if this is normal behavior? There is plenty of hiding spots and all of the water parameters are good (0,0,10).

Thank you.

are those the only tankmates??

Perhaps theyre just not used to their environment yet.. were they wild caught?

Add more cover maybe?? get some dithers so the female can vent on them and not the mail.

Yes they are the only tank mates.

I was thinking about adding some giant danios but I figured I would be overstocked. I do think however it would be better to be a little overstocked and have comfortable fish than to have fish that are extremely skittish.

very true.. I have 2 giant danios in my 90G as dithers...

you should be fine if u do some extra water changes..

I added 3 giant danios yesterday and I must say that it helped for a few hours last night but today they are both hiding under their driftwood again. :

:(

Any ideas? If I added more cover to the tank I wouldn't be able to see in it.

throw in more dithers 3 giant danios arent alot with jds tiger barbs work pretty well and you could throw in 8-10 if you would like

No reason to be alarmed my pair of Jacks hide out almost all day unless food is involved. My male dempsey eats his food right out of my fingers every day that's good enough for me.
