Well, after laying in bed for countless days sick, I came down to my fish room and go WTF, there was a female texas cichlid half white and half normal
I go into panic mode and start doing a water change (with my absence the water became little dirty)
A few minutes after this, I realize a spawn at the bottom of the tank
I continue on and try to refrane from touching the spawn andthe male and female protecting the spawn (MY FIRST EVER TEXAS SPAWN)
Now I sit and wonder, is the color change normal in spawns? Since there are four other texas' in the tank ( and a big fat jack dempsey @9'') will they eat the fry? Howcan I save the fry?
All the texas in this 55 gallon are about 3 1/2 to 4 1/2+ inches
Please LMK!
Thanks So Much

How big is your tank? Do you have any other tanks for the time-being for the 2 other Texas's and the Jack Dempsey?

Congradulations on your first spawn!

As soon as they are free swimming I would siphon them out into a five gal bucket ( use a length of air line tubing and just slowly follow the swarm). Use a low flow air line or sponge filter in the bucket. Once their yoke sac is absorbed try feeding either hikari fry food or ground up flake food. I have had to keep fry in buckets for months waiting for more grow out room. It is normal for tx cichlids to turn half wht and half blk as their spawning dress. GL

I don't think siphoning up the fry would be that comftorable for them, netting them would be better IMO.

Any other opinions?
Can I buy a divider from petco and use it? Or will the fry go through and get eaten
You guys told me how to transport the fry into a bucket but how do I look for it or even knnow exactly when they are born (wont they get eaten?)
Thanks

For my dividers, I use plexu glass, and I drill my holes, so I can make them my desired size.
