I made some DIY LED lights. First one ran for over a year never turned it off only dimmed it. Made a second one because the first one finally gave out. Well....today we had a power outage. I have surge protectors on all my equipment. I got a generator going etc ran the essentials (filtration and heaters). As soon as the power kicked on my light won't respond to the remote and is a random off yellow color the remote for the lights won't allow me to brighten or dim it. Its completely shot. The power outage Ruined my light. And I don't have $$ to go and buy lighting for a 8 foot 240 gallon right now....thank you electric company! Anyone else had equipment ruined from power outages? Glad I didn't have a reef or planted tank I would be out thousands.....guess the Dovii will have to get used to the dark for a while.

No geneator for me since i live in an apartment... So when power goes out, im stuck up the creek without a paddle... So i normally leave everything un-plugged and wait for power to kick on before turning everything back on...

Im guessing the sudden surge is probably what fried your lights???

Yea I'm guessing....they were all in surge protectors though....so Idk. I have no other explanation for the lights not working....just put them together a week ago or so. Fat Homer Fat Homer

Yeah, over here buildings have surge protectors too, but they always advise you un-plug everything and leave it off until after the power goes back on...

I know i've had other electronics blow out that way, so thats why i was guessing maybe that would be the reason...

power outages/surges are bad for all appliances, i have a new fridge that sounds like its gonna explode lol.... i often have strings of power surges and outtages due to construction. Its the power kicking back on thats the problem. Over the years of loss i now run certain brand equipment on my tanks that has surived the best and flipp off the breakers to my fish room until the power kicks back on. Unplugging or shutting off powerstrips works also. Home owners insurance covers the damage, but often at a high deductable. Since unplugging/flipping breakers during outages ive had alot less fish equipment loss.. mainly my pumps. surges make quick work of snapping propellers and frying the motors. Id take a loss on a light any day over a pump lol...

My computers power supply got fried by a surge. We leave all the breakers off apart from the lights for when the power comes back on

What you'r describing is weird, if they're LED, they either work or don't, you could have lost parts of your ramp but not only certain colors.

I could be wrong though, but I'd try with another remote, or no remote at all, as I believe that is where the problem lays.

Might be much cheaper than buying new, so worth a shot. ;)

Yep, you would have to unlug the power cable, and after power back on wait for at least 10 minutes then lug in your equipment.
