Could someone tell me something about these fish? I was looking on here, and someone was saying that their waspfish was at 26", then I look at other places online and they only get to 4"...If they were only four inches, I'd love to pick one up as a mini-monster of my own, but I don't want to make the mistake of getting a 2 foot long fish.

Vespicula Decompressifrons (sp?) stay small, and the 4" measurement is correct. Whoever quoted a waspfish at 20"+ was obviously talking about another species. These small brackish-water fish are in the Scorpinidae family, which includes stonefish, lionfish and other venemous cousins. From what I have read they are finicky eaters and it is hard to meet their care requirements.. I've always wanted some though!

Online sellers here on MFK will sometimes carry them.. Keep an eye out on Aquabid or ask FISH ROOM PLUS, i have seen them available at both location for about $10.

I spelled the Sci name wrong, it's Vespicula depressifrons.. The fish is also known as; Butterfly Goby, Goblin Waspfish, FW Lionfish, and Brackish Waspfish..

That is the best information site I have seen on these fish..

Sometimes a few of the toadfish are called waspfish and a couple of them get good sized, the vespicula stays small.

Interesting.. Regardless, that section about the Butterfly Goby is the most informational I have come across, and has the most pictures.. I wouldn't endorse the rest of the website though!

I saw that site, and thinking that they were an LFS wanting to sell stuff, I kinda steered away from that site in hopes that people on here and other sites would help out more than just a basic care sheet that is written in a smart-aleck tone anyway.

I plan on working on some Species Profiles for under-rated and lesser known Oddball fish this weekend.. I will implement them on the XoticAquatix.com website for everyone to use as referance.
