So tonight, I brought the family yorkie to the vet because he was having problem urinating. This isn't the first time he had this problem. On a few occasions, he would try to pee and nothing would come out. I suspected kidney stones from what I researched online.

i brought him two times for this same exact problem.. The vet said theres nothing wrong with him, even thought i mentioned the exact symptoms to him. Each time, he did a test (stool) and done a physical. He didn't ask for anything more. Each time he would charge us about 200 dollars for the visit (consult and misc). Each time he would ask us to get these shots and that shot (which we comply)

Tonight, I brought my dog over again for the same problem and the doctor brought him into the back of the clinic and advise us to wait outside while he gives our dog a xray to check for stones. In the middle of waiting the Vet came back and told us he couldn't find anything in the xray but advise hes in critical condition (his heart rate was slowing and he was very weak)and we may need to take him to a 24 hour animal hospital!!??

Another 20 mins of waiting outside, the nurse told us to come in and the doctor pronounced our dog dead. He said he die from swallowing his own regurgitation or maybe he die from the high level of potassium. He said its probably from stones.. but hes not sure.

How can this happen? When we brought him in, he was doing fine except for the problem urinating and how come he never suspect anything with the stones before.

My conclusion is that Vet dont' care about anything except money. All they care about is money. I forgot to add that once after we pay for a bill with this vet. He actually had the nerves to bill us by mail because he forgot to charge us for a shot or something.

what a crock of crap.

Anyways.. thanks for letting me vent...

Gloomy.. R.I.P

We love you <3

Just like with people, if you think the doctor you're taking your animals to isn't doing the job you want them to, find a new doctor.

Sorry that happened. There are vets out there that care and are really great with animals, though.

I'm so sorry for your loss!!

With that said;
You do realize that you could sue your vet, right? Because he didn't do his job properly, even though you pointed it RIGHT OUT for him (practically doing his job) and your dog passed of the very thing you were trying to tell him about (maybe, he doesn't freaking know!! MORON) I'd do it, though, my dogs are my kids, and I'd be devastated if that happened to me.

My dogs' vet is AWESOME!! He did a surgery on my dog's leg, and since I didn't have all of the money then and there, he let me make payments on it, so that Terra could keep all 4 feet on the ground!! My vet even told me flat out "If you want her leg to heal PROPERLY, you're gonna have to put the cone on your dog and LEAVE IT THERE!"
Here's my dog 2 years after her surgery, and you can't even tell which leg was ever broken (unless she's sitting, but that's because she kept tearing out her stitches.) very active, runs and plays more than ever. Spoiled rotten, and still hops up on the furniture to lay on me, or try to kick me off.

We switched vets for our dairy goats though, after we lost one of our wethers to bladder stones, and the vet we took him to, wouldn't perform a surgery to save his life. (he was a pet, we would've spent anything if it meant saving him!!) Now, our vet lives almost an hour away, but she's good, and will do what needs to be done in an emergency!!

In the future, cider vinegar breaks down the urinary calculi, and making sure your pet is getting his fluids helps to flush his system, and prevent buildup.

lawsuits..............the American way, no wonder our country is going downhill

They had to pay numerous expensive vet bills for a problem that could have been easily treated the first time if the vet had listened.

I agree that they should've taken their dog to someone else, and they're partially responsible for what happened.

But at the most, they shouldn't have had to pay the vet for malpractice. Humans sue their doctors for malpracice, why shouldn't vets be held to the same standard?!

I am not sue-happy, I just think that vets should have the utmost standards, and LISTEN to their patients' families. If they don't, and there is a resulting loss, the family shouldn't have to pay the bill.

Taking a case like that to court would end up running you more then the difference in vet bills being reimbursed.

You would have to sue the vet for pain and suffering over the loss of your dog to make any money over the ordeal - which was the point I think he was trying to make.

It sucks that the vet was lack luster in his care of the animal, but owners should also be responsible for not taking action when they felt the care being given wasn't satisfactory.

Personally I would tell the Vet. I wanted a reimbursement for the visits prior to getting the dog an actual x-ray and the initial exam.
