Has anyone ever owned or seen a truly vicious and nasty Gold Saum? In my experience they're usually not that aggressive, but I've got a 7-inch male who has killed two slightly smaller fish in the past month. The worst part is it happens so quickly. One day you see a little nipping, the next day you're surprised by a mutilated fish. I've just never known a Gold Saum to put the terror in Green Terror. Starting to look like he might eventually need his own tank, at least if it keeps up at this rate.

The one I have at the moment (8 inches) isn't too much of a terror, he gives the bristlenose a chase every now and then but nothing nasty. The last one however, he would try to kill anything when he hit around 4 inches lol

What size tank is he in?

like most medium to large cichlids they need their space otherwise death can be the outcome unfortunately

He's in a 75. Doubt I'd see much improvement though if I moved him to the 125. Just would give him more villagers to kill.

I had one that just FLIPPED one day and tried killing everything in his 125 and would attack the glass if you approached the tank. Like he suddenly had a dovii brain transplant! Here's a pic as he was attacking the glass because my daughter was too close to his tank.

I had one alone in a 55 when I was a teenager. It was about 8 inches long. One day I came home to find a ripped up Port cichlid, dead jack Dempsey, Oscar attempting to fly, and half of a huge pimoledella. After a significant argument, I found out that my brother in law had decided to "gift" me with several of his unwanted fish.

I asked him (eventually) why he gave me a bunch of half dead fish (and one dead cat) and he said they were fine when he put them in. I gained a lot of respect for GT's that day!

That doesn't surprise me. Mine is now living with two Ornatum. They bow to him and he mostly leaves them alone.

I've had a good 12 Gold Saums.

9/12 were peaceful and passive. The other 3 though were strange, 1 tried to chase and kill everything smaller than himself (lol, pick on someone your own size bub). The other 2 were just a bit territorial, even though they keep giving up territories. I know one thing, they aren't built to fight!
