Didn't think they would spawn so fast and was caught off guard....pardon the filthy tank....the orangeheads spawned and are holding so I didn't want to clean it...

Good stuff!

Are the babies free swimming?

Matt

Thanks Matt :). Not yet - they laid yesterday morning..eggs look good and the parents have been fanning them hard. The other pair is getting into the mood too.

So here is the situation: the orange heads are now perfect peace makers...they are staying in the middle and allowing the two pairs to each occupy one side of the tank. And, they've got their mouths full so they can't really attack or eat the eggs.

The problem is that once the red ceibal eggs hatch, the orange heads might think the wigglers are theirs, and then steal them...which would be interesting to watch, but I don't want to mix the fry, so the orangeheads are coming out tonight....maybe there's going to be chaos... maybe not :)

How long does it take for the eggs to hatch, and do they always hang the wigglers?

Thanks for the posting the footage. I had never really checked these out before you started posting about them and I like them a lot. What is their temperament on par with? Sevs? I thought I had read they were like cons, but the more Ive read today, it doesnt seem like it. I also cant find any good info on max size. How big do they get?

Im really digging them!

Thanks - I'm sure we can work out a trade ;) j/k

These are around 3". I believe they can get to around 6" in captivity. They are peaceful toward other species, but can be mean to their own kind. I'm over-crowding them because Matt mentioned before that they seem more motivated to breed in the presence of other fish.

Ok, cool. Thanks for the info. If youre gonna grow them out, please let me know when they are ready to go and Id like some. Im gonna grow my current batch out and as of last night, they might have laid eggs again. I cant see behind all the wood but the female isnt coming out from her place behind the wood, which is what happened last time.

Well, if the eggs hatch ;). In all likelihood they will be raised by Ken because I don't have the room or live brineshrimp for them, but we can work out something later.

:drool:Very Nice!I need a few of these.
