These are a few short clips that I threw together of my 11.5 inch female umbee. I apologize for the dirty glass, you wouldn't believe how big a tiny smudge looks on film. Regardless here she is. It was right before tank cleaning, if i'd waited til after she just would of sulked. She wasn't in much of a mood to be filmed since she just kept trying to shove her face in front of me. She's eating pellets in the clip and surprisingly she hits them harder than anything else. She also eats krill, market shrimp, and chopped up tilapia fillets. She is my baby and she lives like a queen. I'd love to get some sort of bottom fish to go with her but I worry she'll just turn it into an expensive meal. No she does not bother the filter intake or heater yet, but she does have a huge plastic plant that she loves redecorating with. I let her drag it all over the tank however she wants. Here lately she's been draping it over the drift wood. I thought about getting her a tennis ball since she likes to attack things on top of the water. Finally, yes I do think of her as a water puppy lol.
Enjoy!

beautiful umbee you have there but i hate to be the one to till you, its a 95% chance that you have a male umbee there, i'am some what experince with these fish i had over 13 of them, my biggest being a large 22" male these are my favoret fish, but any way great looking fish, and do'nt be surprise in 9 months that fish will be well over 16"

Thanks guys! Of all the fish I've ever kept she is by far my favorite. Even the roomies who weren't to sure about my large tank being in the living room have fallen in love with her.

Boreek: I've been told similar things and if it happens I'll deal with it. I did try to vent her when I moved her and in my limited experience judging from her vent she is a she. Sumara has lived in a tank by herself for her whole life. She has never had to deal with other fish bothering her therefore she does show very dominant male like coloring as well as having long trailing fins where she's not had other fish biting at them. I can say though that her trailers do not extend past her tail fin which also leads me to believe she's a she.

wonderful bro , i love your female. she looks like she has a good personality too . dont forget to keep us updated on her.very nice again ...

that's a she? Up until this size, if she never laid eggs then that's a he. looks just like a he

Thanks for all the replies guys. Whatever he/she/it is Sumara is definitely my favorite fish. If she/he gets any bigger I'll just buy him a new tank lol.
