All little guys have those dots, They vanish as they get bigger. I wonder why they have them ????

really? i never noticed it but i always saw big cats which never had it. so i know he's gettin big when those vanish :)

The other little guy is just a silver Columbian. Impulse purchase at PetSmart the other day - also very happy and healthy. I already have one 8" Columbian and the "twin" Columbians that keep the really big Oscar amused.

I'm very envious of your Buttikofferi:headbang2

YES! He's my pal. Great personality - very playful. But, he beats up everything in the tank, plants, airhoses, big rocks, gravel, etc. That's ok - he keeps me busy, putting everything back in place. He'll dig down thru 4" of gravel ... geez.

Here's a video of him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9D7BCBUQIRY

has he been mean all his life? or have you kept him solo all his life? i love butti's, and i have a pair in my community tank and they seem great. i never see them show agression towards anything but pellets.

ps. cool live cams

Well - there were 2 at the LFS, one slightly bigger than the other. I bought the bigger one. I went back the next day to pick up his friend. They seemed fine together there - but at my house, the started to pick on eachother. Even after 24 hours, I guess #1 became territorial and #2 got beat up. I did take some videos of them while together. I don't think they were a mating pair - they were just way aggresive. I really hate seeing any kind of un-happiness in the tank ... and knowing 95% of the Buttis I heard of were in solitary - I figured he was ok. He's happy playing with his tank toys ... and he keeps an eye on the cats and big Oscar in the next tank.

Here's a cute video - silly - but cute*: http://www.sandeeland.com/animals/AmyJoeyButtikoferi1.wmv

:)

* Not the best quality; old tank, etc.
