Video Of Some New Fish....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nope it's in the right spot :)

In addition to the moorii I see a couple red zebras (Metriaclima estherae), a couple yellow labs ( Labidochromis Caeruleus), and what I think is a male Kenyi(Pseudotropheus lombardoi). It's the stripey one. It looks like a young male kenyi turning yellow. I can't be 100% sure though.

The moorii might end up bullied by the other fish. I have read they can be a little shy. The others should be ok as long as you are aware that yellow labs and red zebras can cross breed. Kenyi can be really nasty so I would keep an eye on that one.
The sad thing is most pet store workers think that all "african cichlids" can go together and everything will be fine. The thing is that many commonly available african cichlids are some of the most aggressive. Kenyi is one of those and well as auratus.

the nasty one so far is the bigger yellow lab he chases everyone am gunna get some plants {fake ones} since i allready have alot of rock work maybe that will cut down on some aggression? and can peacocks go with the ones i have its really confusing about the haps and the diff lake types i dont know what that all means in terms of what can go with what

here you go, easier then a link.

that 'male kenyi' actualy looks more like a kenyi hybrid. i have had a male kenyi that spawned with some female in one of my tanks and that is/was what the fry came out as. nice setup and good luck with them.

Yeah I could not tell for sure on the video about the Kenyi.

The big yellow one might be the most aggressive now but I can assure you that will change as the fish grow. Just keep an eye on it. Once these fish get to about 3" or so their true nature will show.

AS far as adding peacocks, the other fish might end up being too aggressive for them. Sometimes it works but many times it doesn't. The exception is the yellow labs since they tend to be more mild.

Some plants should help. I would also add more rocks. You can't have too many rocks with these guys. I would also add some more fish. In a 55 gallon you can have 15-20 fish depending one what species you keep. These guys need lots of hiding places and over crowding to help cut down on aggression.

another tip that i found out from my exp is if you overload them with hiding spots they don't fight as much. the thing i found to be the most effective at agresstion prevention was to have nothing in the tank but substraite. the idea was if they have nothing to fight over they will be fine, it worked. that was till my german reds started to spawn then all hell broke lose.

thanks guys you have been helpful and bluefyre that fish in your thing is sweeet! is there any fish that i should look for when i get more? ones that will go good with them?
