I still have never seen this guy eat. Had him almost three months so he has to eat something. Just not sure what. He won't come to the surface. I've tried earthworms, flies, wax worms, garlic extract, Hikari foods, Omega one foods, snails...

The really weird thing is when I turn off the room light he goes from peacefully cruising the tank to insane spastic attack everything. This continues until the tank light shuts off or I turn the room light back on. So here's the video. And yeah, you can see my reflection and I'm not wearing a shirt. Just got off work. Oh well. Oh yeah, you can hear Bon Iver in the background as well.

I'm guessing once the room is dark he can see his reflection and goes to town. Though he doesn't care about his reflection in a mirror.

Hi Modest Man, Great fish tank and nice looking fish..seems weird how your red devil changes it's behavior once the light turns off. I have never seen that before.

Nice Midas and cool vid! Interesting that he does that.I believe Your are right in thinking it's because of seeing his reflection.

Def a case of Reflectospaziosis it affects 1 out of 7 Midas, the lighter color morphs seem more pron to this affliction as they are more reflective!;)

:grinno: Yep, mine kind of do that aswell. They just don't go as wild since they have gotten larger. He looks great.

Flowerpower and I were both discussing in another thread Our F1 Midas don't eat like they should. Or atleast, my male doesn't. My female will take live crickets from my hand. F2 male is a different story, he eats non-stop. Thats 3 sets of F1's that don't eat as much as they should. We could almost do a study.:screwy:

He's never damaged anyone, the covicts actually gang up on him and mess with hit tail a bit when breeding.

If he's seeing his reflection why doesn't he attack a mirror? Just the tank when the room lights go off.

I have no idea at all what he's eating to survive. I can hit him in the head with all sorts of goodies and he won't touch them. He might just be surviving on the convicts spawns. :(

He is like a on off switch, Fine one moment and then Snap crazy mode!

My Argentea does the same thing, just not nearly as spastic. Fun video, thanks for sharing!
